You really need to watch the video linked below.  Seriously, Jeff’s story is the story of millions of people struggling for One Second Chance.  Watch it, please!

Admittedly, I am not the biggest country music fan by far, but this video brought tears to my eyes.  It is so real.  I see “Jeffs” every day.  Open your eyes to reality beyond what you may think you know, and I guarantee you there is a Jeff right in front of you somewhere.  A Jeff who needs your support, compassion, and love.  Raw and on-point, Jeff’s story pictures the situation millions of people face every day as they struggle to get their lives back on track and hope against hope for One Second Chance.  Will you help them overcome?

Many of you have been asking and perhaps wondering what you can do about all this stuff.  Here’s a start.  Find a Jeff, a Janice, a Kevin.  They are all around you.  I guarantee it.  If not, then find a way to put yourself in a place where they will find you and you will find them.  You need them as much as they need you.  And then listen to their story.  If you truly listen, make yourself vulnerable, and compassionately respond, I promise you will find your way to action on behalf of those in need.   And the blessings of hope will flow into not just their lives, but yours as well.

  1. Hi Kent, we are friends with Erin and Carmen. At our youth Sunday school at Calvary Baptist church (in DC) we have enjoyed reading about your blog during Lent this year. Our church is also a partner church with the Washington Interfaith Network and we have actually taken on advocacy work such as “Ban the Box”. Anyway, we wanted to make sure to drop you a note. Thank you for your courageous and interesting practice and writing. It has certainly been a good material for our youth Sunday school. You can see our class blog here:
    Best, Daniel and Lu
